A perfect day in paradise
A perfect day for me in Akumal would go something like this:
Wake up early in the morning just as it is starting to get light.
Put on a swimsuit and sarong. Grab the ipod and the camera and start the day
by walking the beach end to end. There is one part on the north end of the bay
where I often see a small stingray feed early in the morning.
You can see him skimming the water about 4 feet from the shore.
The first time I saw it I couldn't figure out what it could be,
and then one of the guys who rakes the seaweed early
in the morning told me. It really is cool to watch.
And in this very quiet time I love to see the young turtles coming up
for air all over the bay. I walk a ways and then sit and look
at the water and enjoy the sunrise. The clouds to the north make some
beautiful formations at that time of day.
Of course, it is fun to see what kind of gifts the sea has left on the shore.
I always find treasures to examine!
Around 9:00 I head back to the condo where everyone is starting to wake up.
I sit on the beach and wait until everyone is ready to go for breakfast at
Turtle Bay Bakery or the Loncheria. After a yummy breakfast we head back
to the condo and grab the beach towels, cooler full of cold drinks,
and snorkel gear and commence to lounging on the beach.
I always have a portable music player so we have great tunes!
The rest of the afternoon is spent snorkeling, reading, strolling and snoozing.
The hours are endless and everything just feels so right.
Sometime early in the afternoon we go back up to the condo and whip up
some guacamole and salsa and chips for a little snack and refill the cooler
with libations and while away a few more hours until we get hungry for dinner.
La Lunita is my favorite restaurant. It is right on the beach
with outdoor tables to enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze.
The food is fabulous- they have the best coconut shrimp ever!
The waiters are very attentive and they remember us year after year!
After dinner we stroll back down the beach to our "home away from home".
I like to sit on the beach listening to the night and stargazing.
I always see so many shooting stars there.
I lay in a beach chair until I get drowsy and then head up to bed
and drift off with the ocean in my ears and peace in my soul.
